My buddy Jimmy was over and we were watching a movie. After the movie ended he suggested another movie to watch, so I ran to the Redbox to rent it. I figured my wife would enjoy the movie, it was not explicitly stated but I understood that Jimmy had already seen the second movie. When I arrived home I put the movie in, and began to watch the previews. I decided to stop the movie before it began and instead show off some of the cool things my Amazon Echo could do.
As usual in my dreams I found it hard to complete a simple task, this time it was get the room quiet. I muted the TV but, then had to mute the receiver (don’t know why) and still was finding it difficult to talk to Alexa. I found myself call out to her several times to get her to respond to my commands. Despite this struggle I was ultimately able to get her to play some music.
After about the second demonstration of the awesomeness of Alexa, Jimmy informed me that someone was trying to get in my front door. I looked through the front window and saw an attractive, blonde woman in her mid to late twenties trying to open my door. While awake me might find this odd, dream me was completely okay with this occurrence and promptly opened the door and asked her if I could help her. it was at this time that I noticed a dark grey single cab pickup truck backed into my grass, and two men preparing to unload a motorcycle. Dream me seemed understanding, and quickly realized that this was a purchase I had made earlier that day. I invited the three into the house and went back to trying to showcase Alexa.
Finding it increasingly difficult, for her to hear me and me to hear her, I walked over to the tall black tube that adorns my entertainment center and tried to manually turn the volume up. I found this task to be difficult as well, Alexa not responding to the twist of her top ring. At this point I opened the tube up (not sure how) and found a plastic back lining the interior of the tube, with a small amount of silvery, metallic liquid (almost looked like mercury) at the bottom of the plastic. I remember thinking “Oh she’s low”, whatever that means, and I proceeded to put her back together and continue trying to ask her questions and have her perform menial tasks to impress the people now littered throughout my house.
I was finally able to get her to play some music and I set to entertaining my guests, in the dream world I am guessing some time passed because more people were now gathered in my home, children watching TV, my Best Friend Matt and his wife in from across the state and many people I didn’t know. Standing in the other room, next to Matt I call out “Alexa Stop” at which point the music comes to a halt. Matt, wanting an Echo himself becomes excited and now wants to play. We begin to ask her odd random questions and it has become increasingly hard to get her attention, I find myself yelling at the top of my lungs “ALEXA… ALEXA” to no avail, hoping beyond hope that I see that familiar blue ring indicating Alexa is ready to do my bidding. I move the tube several times trying to get better acoustics but no luck, and as I struggle I find myself becoming more embarrassed in front of all these people. As I struggle, somehow the Echo turns into an old clock radio, her iconic blue ring now a rectangle around the clock face. Still struggling I begin to get hoarse from yelling… and then I wake up.
Luckily for me, my Echo is not a clock radio, she is still a simple black tube adorning my entertainment center and she can hear me just fine.
